Why this decision is easy to get wrong
Over-door products borrow a narrow gap that was not always designed for extra hardware. Bracket thickness, door thickness, trim, weather seals, hinge alignment, and the load’s movement can all affect operation.
A product can hang correctly while still scraping trim, preventing the latch from engaging, or striking the wall. The loaded state matters more than the empty demonstration.

Door type
Fire-rated, exterior, hollow, mirrored, glass, or special doors may have restrictions that generic marketing does not address.

- Identify the door type and check property or manufacturer restrictions.
- Measure door thickness and the narrowest top gap without forcing a gauge into the frame.
- Map the organizer’s loaded depth on both faces.
- Confirm the door can open, close, latch, and reach its stopper without added resistance.
- Start with light, non-breakable contents within the documented limit.
- Recheck fasteners, brackets, and door operation after setup.
